Tips for creating and submitting your story

Choose a story and category

Choose a story you'd like to share and a suggested category, or create your own.

Choose from a list of suggested categories of student experiences, or create your own if it is not listed.

Need inspiration? Read or view other learner's stories.

Outline and structure your story

There are many different ways to structure a story, but your story must have a beginning, middle, and an end.

Consider these quick questions when creating your #BecauseWeWill story:
- What did you learn from your experience?
- What was the challenge you overcame and how did you grow from your experience?
- What can you share with other learners that can help them during their education journey?
Lastly, consider who you are telling the story to and what you want them to take away after reading or watching.

‍Will this story inspire future learners to overcome similar obstacles?

Share your #BecauseWeWill story

Once you have created your story, submit it on this website and share it on your public social media profile using the hashtag #BecauseWeWill.

If you are submitting a written story, please post a short summary of your story on social media and a link to the becausewewill.org website. But we highly encourage you to record a video!

Video tips

Before you record your video, you should make sure of a few things so it’s the best quality possible.

Find decent lighting
- Can we see you clearly?
- Are you using direct lighting?
Record during the day near a window or in a well-lit room for the best results.

Be mindful of background noise
- Are you in a quiet space where you can record uninterrupted?
Make sure there are no distracting background noises, like talking, music, etc.

Choose a good background
- Is the background distracting?
- Did you make sure to get rid of any clutter?
A solid color wall is ideal and virtual backgrounds are a great option as well.

Dress the part

You don’t need to be dressed formally, but make sure to look presentable. We want your story to help others.
